Conflict Free Diamonds
“Conflict” diamonds, are the diamonds mined in a war zone and used in various countries in the world for funding the waging of wars or rebel groups who are involved in spreading communal disharmony. These diamonds are procured by illegal and unethical means of child labor abuse, human right violations, and flouting environmental norms, and hence known by the word “conflict” or “blood” diamonds.
To control this worldwide threat and put an end to their evil designs, the diamond industry worldwide with government agencies like United Nations and Human Rights Organization ratified The Kimberly Process Certification and passed a resolution in 2003.
Abiding by this resolution, the companies involved in the entire supply chain of diamonds ascertain that diamonds passed on by them, from one stage to other, are free from “conflict” and “blood”.
World Diamond Council, the apex body of diamond industry worldwide, requires that suppliers of diamond / diamond-jewelry, as a system of warranties to their customers, should include the following statement on their invoice / memo, to demonstrate their commitment to this cause.
“The diamonds herein invoiced have been purchased from legitimate sources not involved in funding conflict and in compliance with United Nations resolutions. The seller hereby guarantees that these diamonds are conflict free, based on personal knowledge and/or written guarantees provided by the supplier of these diamonds.”
Diamond Delight, as a policy procures diamonds and jewelry only from complying suppliers of global repute with proven background and good governance. It is mandatory for our suppliers to include the warranty statement on their invoice/ memo. We do not entertain suppliers who do not meet these criteria.
